A maintenance page should explain what is happening and give visitors a useful next action. It should not be a blank wall or an accidental long-term homepage.
A seven-part setup
- Create a dedicated maintenance template in Elementor Theme Builder.
- Write a short, honest message with an expected return time when possible.
- Add a contact method or an alternative page for urgent visitors.
- Keep the layout light and mobile-friendly.
- Preserve readable contrast, keyboard access, and a meaningful page title.
- Exclude administrators and editors from the maintenance view while testing.
- Set a reminder to disable maintenance mode and verify the live site afterward.
Be careful with indexing. A temporary maintenance page should normally not replace the canonical content of important public URLs, and the status should be removed as soon as the work is complete.
